Spirit Whisker: The Revenant

“Spirit Whisker: The Revenant” draws inspiration from the Vietnamese folklore of “quỷ nhập tràng” (corpse possession) to build its storyline. The film weaves in the unique cultural elements of Hue, such as the art of porcelain mosaic, a distinctive feature of the Nguyen dynasty, while addressing issues of social class and gender discrimination. Notably, the imagery of zombie processions and paper effigies not only symbolizes impending doom or misfortune but also serves as manifestations of karmic retribution.
